Joining the Dots:
City Volunteering Strategy 2010-2015
Joining The Dots sets out strategic priorities for volunteering in Brighton & Hove. It also sets out to provide a broad understanding base of volunteering in the City in a way that is relevant and informative to a diverse spectrum of readers with a vested interest in realising the potential of volunteering – commissioners, volunteer managers, funders, decision-makers, volunteers, and residents.

Democracy day
23rd September, 2010
Marie Aston, the Volunteer Centre's Strategic Developments Worker and Steve Lawless, Impetus CEO, ran a workshop on volunteering at Brighton and Hove City Council's Democracy Day.
Steve said "There was a lot of interest in the role of volunteering within the Big Society policy initiative. The City Volunteering Strategy does speak to many of the opportunities in the Big Society agenda so our work on this is very timely for the sector. I recommend reading the briefings that are produced by Urban Forum."

Marie added "It was a successful day with lots of interest in volunteering, how the VC and Impetus supports groups and volunteer coordinators. We didn’t have much of a discussion around volunteering and democracy, therefore the presentation for the session and a summary of the volunteering strategy can be downloaded below."

VE launches Volunteer Rights Inquiry
December 2009
The Volunteer Rights Inquiry is keen to hear from a wide range of people with thoughts on and in interest in the issues of volunteer rights and redress. Whether you are a volunteer; a volunteer manager; a representative of a volunteer involving organisation; someone in the public, private or voluntary and community sector; someone with good or bad experiences to share; or simply someone with an opinion on the topic, the Volunteer Rights Inquiry wants to hear from you.
The Volunteer Rights Inquiry is especially keen to hear people's thoughts on how volunteer involving organisation can prevent problems by treating volunteers well and what mechanisms could be put in place to provide an independent means of redress when, unfortunately, things do go wrong.
