Cancer Advocacy is a free service funded by Macmillan providing one-to-one support for people who are affected by cancer.

Who is Cancer Advocacy for?

We provide independent advocacy to adults affected by cancer who either:

  • Are aged 50+;
  • Have learning disabilities;
  • Have mental health problems;
  • Are on the autism spectrum

We can support you if you or a family member have been affected by cancer.

How can we help you?

Explaining infoGetting information
Do you wish you had more information? An advocate can help you find out whatever you need to know from information on cancer through to what practical help is available locally.

Talking and listeningAsking questions
Being able to ask questions can make it easier to cope. An advocate can support you to ask questions about your diagnosis and treatment or questions about how you can get the help you need to manage at home.

SpeakingGetting your voice heard
Do you feel you are not being listened to? An advocate will listen to you to find out what is important to you. They will try to ensure that health professionals, social care, housing, benefits and other agencies understand and respect your choices.

Meeting handshakeSupport at meetings and appointments
Would you like someone to go to an appointment with you? An advocate can support you in meetings or help you to communicate with a health or social care professional face to face or by phone or email.

CarerCarer’s support
Do you care for a family member or friend who has been diagnosed with cancer? The person you care for may live with you or in their own home or residential care. An advocate can find you information on what help to ask for, and who to ask.
