The Performance Development Service provides support to medium sized organisations that employ at least one member of staff and who provide services in the health, welfare and social care sector or work with socially excluded people.

We offer skilled support to enable organisations to improve their management and governance systems thereby enabling them to deliver services more effectively.

Staff Profiles

Jan Aram has extensive experience in supporting VCOs working in the area of health and well-being. She is a fully licenced PQASSO Mentor and registered PQASSO Peer Reviewer. Jan can help organisations to implement PQASSO Self-Assessment and to achieve the PQASSO Quality Mark.


Jim Simpson Consultancy provides a broad range of services to organisations within the third sector and public services as well as to individual managers and staff. The consultancy has extensive experience in management consultancy, research, evaluation, training, coaching and role supervision.

Jim has successfully supported and coached development workers and managers; helped organisations to develop; evaluated work and assisted with service improvement; as well as raised substantial funds. Consultancy services are within the areas below:

  • Development - management development; business planning; services development, consultancy, partnership work, performance appraisal, organisational development.

Jenny Harper is a service development consultant and individual/team performance coach. Jenny has several years’ experience in healthcare development within NHS, community and independent settings as a consultant, service director and interim manager.

Specific areas of consultancy experience have included Mental Health, HIV, Cancer and Substance Misuse services. Consultancy projects have involved strategy development, needs analysis, integrating services across multiple providers, facilitation of service user and staff consultation and service review and redesign.


Rona Parsons has extensive experience in organisational development together with the achievement of quality standards in the disability and legal advice services fields. Rona can also assist organisations in gaining the Matrix Quality Mark.


Judith Cousin has extensive experience of business planning, performance management and strategic planning.


Larissa Steer is an independent fundraising consultant with over 15 years experience drawn from senior posts held within charities and marketing agencies raising money solely for the third sector. Larissa has worked with organisations of all sizes, from large national charities to small community groups and can assist with fundraising audits, opportunities research, bid writing and appraisal, developing a fundraising strategy, maximising in-house capacity, fundraising training and integrating fundraising approaches into a communications strategy.


Shanila Wahid-Foolheea is a Business and Life Coach, creating solutions for business and techniques for living. Coaching is a tool that empowers people to make decisions about life, whilst supports individuals and organisations to take the necessary action to achieve, what you decide, you want.

Coaching incorporates parts of the following:

  • Counselling - to help someone improve self-awareness and change points of view. Mentoring – sharing sage advice to help someone become more savvy in business or personal matters.
  • Teaching – instructing someone in order to improve expertise.
  • Confronting – addressing non-performance to help someone either achieve performance goals or accept the necessity of redeployment.

Cynthia Brocken is a communications specialist who can portray an organisation’s aims, vision and values with creative flair and business nous. She project manages the writing and production of charity marketing brochures and annual trustee reports, such as the Impetus Annual Review marketing brochure that was targeted to funders and the Impetus Annual Report & Accounts to March 2009.

She brings extensive experience as a business journalist, a former director of communications for a multi-national and in recent years, management experience in the Brighton and Hove voluntary sector and the ability to work with a diversity of staff and volunteers.


Jenny Holmes, Managing Director of Brighton HR Ltd, has worked in human resources in both the public and private sector for many years, having previously worked in the events and conference industry.

She has a MSc in Personnel and Development as well as the full CIPD qualification and is motivated by the desire to understand her clients and support them in improving their business outcomes.


Duncan Campbell has worked in local government for thirty years, for much of it as a Child Protection Manager. He was the Manager for Family Support in Brighton and Hove and was responsible for project management, the development of Integrated Working and producing the training programmes necessary to implement these initiatives for statutory, voluntary, private sector and community organisations. Duncan is a co-founder of Accessable Solutions and works with staff and management teams on reviewing and project planning.

Nigel Jenner has over thirty years youth work experience in the Local Authority and voluntary sector in London and Brighton.  Nigel has over 25 years experience of developing and delivering training programmes, developing policies and procedures, assessment and action planning processes, mentoring workers and line management He has managed and supported the development of a range of programmes of work with young people and experience of working with the voluntary sector in developing new initiatives and fundraising. Nigel is a co-founder of Accessable Solutions and works with staff and management teams on project reviewing and planning.

Duncan and Nigel share a passion to help those they work with achieve the best deliverable solution for their unique challenge.


Kat Pearce is a Coach & Mentor and Management Consultant. She has extensive local, regional and national experience of working in and with voluntary and community organisations, and socially excluded groups and communities.

She offers a range of skills in relationship management, organisational development, supporting individuals and working with teams and organisations. Working alongside people she is skilled at bringing people and resources together to achieve concrete, tangible results.

Rob Gentles has 15 years senior management experience in the voluntary, commercial and statutory sectors. He is ideally placed to help organisations with business planning and organisational development especially those facing restructuring in the current economic climate or charities dipping a tentative toe into social enterprise. Rob specialises in providing sympathetic individual support to leaders and decision makers, helping them with planning, organisation and prioritisation to allow them to focus on what they are good at.

Rob is also an IT expert with a talent for helping individuals and organisations get the most from their IT, ensuring that the technology, business processes and skills are in place to make sure that the IT serves you and not the other way round. He has a passion for helping people to get to grips with "email overload", using a range of simple non-technical skills to help people take control of their workload.


Jill Woolf

Jill has had a 25+ year management level career in PR, sales and marketing working with blue chip, not-for-profit/charity and independent organisations including TSB Trustcard and Downland Housing Group. She runs her own PR and marketing consultancy covering strategy/planning; advertising; corporate literature and copywriting; PR and media training; crisis PR management; internal communications; stakeholder perception surveys; website/intranet review and development; event and conference management; mentoring and more. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of PR.
