Deputy Chief Officer

Job Description

We’re hiring: two key posts within our expanding charity

We’re looking for two exceptional people to join us at this exciting time for our organisation.

Impetus helps people who are lonely or isolated, providing friendship and support, and helping people make and sustain their own connections in their communities, we believe that everyone matters and no-one should be isolated. We currently have over 400 volunteers providing over 14,000 hours of support per year to over 1,000 service users, but need is growing and we are changing to make sure we’re up to the task of meeting it.

We are expanding our work on tackling isolation and loneliness in our city; building on 20 years of befriending and volunteering expertise, and now leading the conversation on social prescribing. We have big ambitions to grow new aspects of our work including income generation and making the most of digital with our organisation and our community. We are refocusing our work, refreshing our brand and restructuring our teams to deliver our ambitions. Much of this is already underway, and now we need you to help us get there.

Deputy Chief Officer

The linchpin of our organisation! The DCO oversees our day-to-day operations: with key fundraising responsibilities, line management of Service Managers, and leading on quality and evidence. The DCO will link their work with our new co-design strategy, ensuring client and volunteer voices are heard. They will make sure we use what we learn from our monitoring and evaluation, research and user voice to inform service development and fundraising. The DCO is a critical part of the central team, bringing detailed knowledge of services to the strategic and governance conversations and to our engagement-based communications and fundraising activities.

Experience:

  • You will have experience of leading through a period of change, supporting and engaging teams with culture change, and delivering transparent and effective change processes.
  • You will have a track record in successful fundraising, in particular, Trusts and Foundations and developing and drafting tender bids.
  • You will have experience managing multiple services or work streams and of research or evaluation to provide credible and, where possible, validated evidence of impact.

Attributes:

  • You will have highly developed people skills to be able to get the best out of our teams, empowering them to lead in their areas.
  • You will challenge and stretch us all to do more, more efficiently, supporting Service Managers and Team Leaders to implement changes.
  • You will have an eye for detail, understanding how the detail of how things work is what makes a quality service overall. You will also support the teams to get the detail right to ensure consistency and quality across our organisation.
