Supporting and Fundraising Update

Over the last couple of months I’ve met and been inspired by supporters championing Brighton & Hove Impetus in innovative ways to raise awareness and funds.

Easy fundraising

Some of our supporters are keen to develop easy and fun ways to fundraise; such as bake-offs, cake sales, coffee mornings, clothes swaps, quiz nights, dining evenings, hosting film viewings and ‘Strictly’ gatherings. Even organising birthday celebrations asking friends to make a donation instead of presents. All these ideas are brilliant and we do have a Supporter Ideas help sheet which is available to download here.

Business and wider organisation support

I’ve also met with organisations keen to engage employees and members in volunteering, team building and fundraising activities. Please get in touch if you work for, or are a member of, an organisation that would like to get involved. Businesses and groups’ insight into communities and networks across the city is invaluable and we’d welcome connecting with like-minded organisations to work together to tackle isolation and loneliness in our city.

Help reduce isolation and loneliness over Christmas

We all know Christmas can be a very lonely and isolating time for many people. We appreciate our volunteers’ wonderful donation of time supporting our members citywide. If you’re a volunteer, why not chat to your friends and colleagues about the benefits of volunteering, or gather them together to raise funds to support others over the winter?

By donating just £10 we will be able to print 50 leaflets to deliver through letterboxes in the city. This can extend our reach to a new street in the city, allowing us to recruit new volunteers to befriend or support more lonely or isolated people.

If you’d like to make a donation now, please click here to visit our JustGiving – we are grateful for whatever amount you are able to give!

Free funds from online shopping

Are you an online shopper? As you order your usual weekly grocery shop or gifts for Christmas you could, at the same time, raise free funds for our charity. We get a commission on any purchases you make at no extra cost to you. It’s very easy to sign up so please check out www.giveasyoulive.com and www.smile.amazon.co.uk – simply choose ‘Brighton & Hove Impetus’.

Looking ahead: 20th anniversary in 2019

In 2019 Brighton & Hove Impetus celebrates its 20th anniversary! We are looking forward to an exciting year continuing to develop our services, working alongside our incredible volunteers and building partnerships with more organisations.

New year, new you?

There are 100s of fantastic challenge events taking place all over the city and neighbouring counties. To embrace new starts and resolutions, why not sign up for a fun run, a walking event, a cycling challenge or enlist a team and enter a muddy assault course? We’d be delighted to be the beneficiary of any associated fundraising!

You can also make up your own challenge. I know someone who challenged themselves to run-walk to France and back (theoretically…in terms of distance covered). They set up a JustGiving page and completed their challenge over a few weeks, on their terms, and at their own pace. Amazing!

If you fancy taking on a fun challenge, sign up for an event of your choice and then set up a JustGiving page here.

Let me know what you’re doing, and we can help support you :-)
Best wishes, Karen
