Get Together Community PicnicPosted on 22nd June 2017 by Alex Mackain-Bremner
Celebrating all we have in common!
Last Saturday (17 June 2017), as part of a nationwide series of events in honour of Jo Cox MP, we hosted a community picnic in Palmeira Square Gardens, Hove. There were lots of happy smiling faces and interest in uniting our community and also in our local charity, Impetus.
Big thanks to all who helped to make the day so wonderful!
The picnic was a great success, bringing together local people, businesses and our charity volunteers. The sun shone down on us and we enjoyed delicious foods and drinks generously donated from businesses in the immediate Palmeira/Brunswick area and beyond: Crumpetty Tree café, Morelli Zorelli sourdough pizza, La Cave à Fromage, Market restaurant, Hell’s Kitchen Deli, V&H Café and Sainsbury’s Local and Tesco Express. Special thanks to Impact Initiatives who also supported us to make sure the day went well.
As well as the food and drink, there was face painting, a tombola, games and crafts which added to the fun. A Pledge Tree in Palmeira Square Gardens was also adorned with individually decorated Community Pledges; check them out on our Twitter page.
The sun and soaring temperatures were a bonus for the happy atmosphere of the community event. Visitors included Portslade and Hove MP Peter Kyle, Councillor Pete West and Imam Uthman Jeewa from the Almedinah Mosque in Brighton.
Thanks again to all our visitors & supporters – we are so grateful for your continued help!
Our mission to connect people in Brighton and Hove to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing reflects Jo Cox’s belief that that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us’.
We know – from the first-hand experience of the vulnerable people we work with – the effects division and isolation can have. Did you know that social isolation is as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day?
Those living alone are particularly prone to being lonely; so that means the over 65s, adults with learning disability and those with a severe mental illness are particularly at risk.
We help by connecting people through Befriending, Advocacy, Community Navigation and Volunteering. So why not join the Brighton & Hove Impetus community?
You can do this in a number of ways:
Donate or Fundraise
We rely on the generosity of people like you to support us to make a real difference to people across Brighton & Hove.
