Great night at AspirePosted on 30th November 2010 by chrisgirvan
Last week we had a fantastic night here at the office.
There were mentors and people new to Aspire, not to forget previous group members who have been attending for sometime. The evening was extremely relaxed and full of excitement as was evidenced by the fact that no one wanted to leave at 9.00pm.
Asperger syndrome Service User Awareness WorkshopsPosted on 24th November 2010 by hendrickx1
Yesterday saw the first outing of ASpire’s Awareness Workshops for people with Asperger syndrome. Following a diagnosis of Asperger syndrome, it is usually the case that no information about the condition and what it means for the individual is provided. This was certainly the case for all of those who attended our first workshop – none of them had ever received any explanation of what Asperger syndrome was and how having Asperger syndrome would affect their lives. Post-diagnostic support in Asperger syndrome is non-existant and this is something that we hope the Brighton and Hove City Council’s Autism Strategy will address as a priority.
Impetus triumphs at the Public Service AwardsPosted on 16th November 2010 by Impetus
Impetus has won the award for Best Health & Well Being Initiative in deploying more than 400 volunteers within our charitable activities, in the Brighton and Hove Public Service Awards and gala dinner at the Grand Hotel. In the other category in which we’d been shortlisted, Best Community Initiative for developing the City Volunteering Strategy, we were highly commended for our work.
So many new mentors!Posted on 9th November 2010 by hendrickx1
I am overwhelmed by the number of enquiries from people wishing to become mentors with ASpire – 14 in the last 3 weeks. Our next training session should be full to the brim with aspiring Aspirers and I’m very much looking forward to working with them all.
