Following on from Steve’s post, it was a successful day with lots of interest in volunteering, how the VC and Impetus supports groups and volunteer coordinators.
We didn’t have much of a discussion around volunteering and democracy, so for more information you can download the presentation for the session and a summary of the volunteering strategy.

Marie and I ran a workshop at Democracy Day on volunteering. There was a lot of interest in the role of volunteering within the Big Society policy initiative. The City Volunteering Strategy does speak to many of the opportunities in the Big Society agenda so our work on this is very timely for the sector. I recommend reading the briefings that are produced by Urban Forum.

A Scrutiny Panel on Services for Adults with Autistic Spectrum Conditions has been set up by Brighton & Hove City Council to develop a local response to the first National Autism Strategy.

The needs of adults with autistic spectrum conditions will be the subject of a public meeting on Friday September 24 from 10am to noon at Hove Town Hall.

The Volunteer Centre is pleased to present ‘Joining the Dots – a triple impact volunteering strategy for Brighton & Hove 2010-2015’. Commissioned by the City Employment and Skills Steering Group and with further financial support from Brighton & Hove City Council and the Stronger Communities Partnership, this has been both an enormous and exciting undertaking.

John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, will visit the city on Thursday 23 September as part of Democracy Day. Hear what life is really like in Parliament, what goes on behind the scenes and the best way to influence decision-making. As part of the day, funded by Take Part and organised in partnership by the council and local voluntary organisations, Mr Bercow will visit Coledan library while members of his team will visit Hangleton library.
At midday he will kick off an afternoon of activities in Jubilee Square. Continue reading…
Architecture and Historical Tour for adults with Asperger syndrome – Saturday 11th SeptemberPosted on 3rd September 2010 by Impetus
On Saturday 11th September, ASpire in conjunction with The Regency Town House will be running The Architecture and Historical Tour for adults with Asperger syndrome.The tour starts outside the front door of 13 Brunswick Square, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, BN3 1EH and will run between 1pm and 2pm.
The tour is designed to introduce adults with Asperger syndrome and their mentors to classical architecture and the history of Brunswick Town, Hove.
