Vetting and Barring SchemePosted on 9th February 2010 by stevelawless
Last nights Panarama dealt with some of the problems of the new Independent Safeguarding Authority Vetting and Barring Scheme. Impetus staff think it will have a significant negative impact on volunteering but, more importantly wont do much to safeguard vulnerable people. As the social work professor said on the programme, it is a scheme designed to safeguard the backs of organisations and the government not vulnerable people. If the equivalent resources were put into improving safeguarding practice and improving public knowledge then the impact on child and vulnerable adult safety would be far greater. This really is a political disgrace.
