Impetus is a Brighton and Hove based charity which provides direct support services to local people experiencing disability and/or disadvantage. We also provide infrastructure support to organisations within the voluntary sector.

New NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS)

From 1st April 2013, Brighton & Hove Impetus has been commissioned by Brighton and Hove City Council to deliver the NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy Service.  ICAS is a free and independent service that can help you make a complaint about your National Health Service (NHS) care or treatment.  The service will be delivered in partnership with AgeUK Brighton & HoveMIND in Brighton & HoveMindOut, Speak Out and Sussex Interpreting Services providing a new kind of Independent NHS Complaints Advocacy Service based on our shared commitment to high-quality, local advocacy and tailored to the City's diverse communities.

This advocacy complaints service will support Brighton & Hove residents who need support to resolve a complaint about healthcare commissioned or provided by the NHS in England.

We are working hard to set up the new ICAS service, and will publish more details as soon as we can.

How can the NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy Service support me?

We are working to produce a Self Help Information Pack to help you make a complaint about your care or treatment using the NHS Complaints Procedure. You can choose to make your complaint without the support of an ICAS advocate but you might decide that you need support to make a complaint. ICAS advocates can work with you to ensure you understand your options and help you to achieve the outcome you are seeking.

How do I find out more?

Impetus will be setting up this new service over the next few weeks and more information will become available from this website.  If you would prefer to speak to someone, you can call us on the number below.

Call 01273 229002 to ask for an advocate to call you back.

The ICAS service is part of Healthwatch Brighton & Hove – the new independent health and social care watchdog – which is to be set up by Community and Voluntary Sector Forum (CVSF).

The Board of Trustees of Impetus is delighted to announce the appointment of Julia Reddaway as Interim CEO.

Julia, who formally takes up the role on 2 April 2013, will be covering for the permanent CEO, Jo Ivens, for the period of her maternity leave.

Julia has over 20 years experience in the voluntary and public sectors, much of it within Brighton & Hove. She brings strong leadership and strategic skills to our organisation at a time when the sector and environment are in a state of considerable change. Julia's abilities and energy are a great fit for Impetus and will enable us to respond positively to the changes and opportunities which lie ahead.

2013-14 will be another big year for Impetus as we ensure the smooth transfer of the Volunteer Centre and the Performance Development Scheme to the new lead infrastructure organisation in Brighton & Hove, and continue to develop our own community of projects providing high quality support for vulnerable adults.
